About Me:

I have worked in information management in both the UK and in New Zealand since the late 1980's. I've been involved in library system management and the development of on-line services and products. Before coming to the Wellcome Library I worked for the National Library of New Zealand on national digital preservation strategies. I worked on projects such as the NLNZ preservation metadata schema and the metadata extract tool.

I'm currently Digital Curator at the Wellcome Library in London. I lead a project that will see the Library implement its strategic aim of collecting born digital archival materials and preserving them for the long term. This work applies professional archival practice, and uses a collaborative approach to develop common tools and workflows for the acquisition and long-term management of born digital materials. Key goal for 2008-09 is the acquisition of a digital object repository for the Library. I also lead the Wellcome Library's contribution to the UK Web Archiving Consortium, archiving web-based material.

The Library contributes to the UK Web Archive by selecting sites that support an understanding of medicine and its role in society, past and present. As well as practical archiving this also involves developing strategies for the preservation of web-based materials and the development of the tools for web archiving. I hold a BA (Hons) in history from the University of Wales, St David's UniversityCollege and a MA in library and information studies from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
